Socket 939 Goodness

Krishnan, a friend of mine approached me for upgrading his old P3.

He got himself an AMD Socket 939 Athlon64 3000+ Venice core processor, 2×512MB DDR400, Asus A8N-E motherboard and an XFX Geforce 6600 non-GT 256 MB graphics card.

It’s a killer combination. The Venice core and the 6600 non-GT was recommended by Tom’s Hardware in their $500 gaming rig article.

The Venice core is a uber overclockable core. The performance will be same or slightly better than Vysnu’s 3000+, but the overclockability of the Venice is much greater. It cost 7200 Rs. Around 700 rs more costly than its US price.

The Asus A8N-E is an nForce 4 Ultra chipset motherboard similar to Vysnu’s MSI K8N Neo4 Platinum. It cost 6200 Rs. It costs $115 in the US.

The XFX GeForce 6600 non-GT has half the performance of the 6600GT, but cost only 6500 rs compared to the GT which would have cost 10000+ bucks here.

The 6600 non GT version costs only 4500 rs abroad. And the 6600GT 128 mb can be got for just 7000 Rs in the US.

The graphics card prices are still inflated. I really wonder when they will come down.

Krishnan is gonna use his comp for CAD work, which needs an OpenGL graphics card. So nVidia was the obvious choice.

Meanwhile, my friends Adarsh AKA Showstopper and Krishnanand AKA Evil Fraggot has started blogging.

Showstopper is #1 in UT2004 1 on 1 in the whole of Kerala. He has been unstoppable even since he got his MX518. I have to play like a suicide bomber to get even 1 frag!

Sp^wN_0F_S^T^N is an uber Quake3 player and very good in Free for All UT2004 matches, because he usually wins them!

I welcome them to the blogging world.
